PRO8 Estimates 6.5M Damage to PNP Infrastructures during Typhoon Ambo    

 

Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Campetik, Palo, Leyte – Twenty- three (23) different PNP infrastructures in Eastern Visayas were recorded to have been damaged during the onslaught of Typhoon Ambo, internationally known as “Vongfong”, on May 16, 2020 with an estimated amount of PHP 6, 534, 269. 95 according to the Office of the Regional Engineering Unit (REU) 8.

Among the damages incurred are the following: damaged/broken glass at the entrance door, window glass and frames, roof and ridge roll, scaffoldings, ceilings, fascia board, gutters, roof framing, detached hinges and window frames, water line pipes, posts, building signage, paintings, wirings and comfort rooms.

Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO) incurred damages with an estimated amount of PHP 1,149,755.00; Samar Police Provincial Office (SPPO) incurred PHP 857,406.00 estimated damages and for Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office (ESPPO) which was greatly affected by the typhoon incurred an estimated damage of PHP 4, 527, 108.95.

Fortunately, there were no recorded damage in Ormoc City Police Office (OCPO); Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO); Biliran Police Provincial Office (BPPO); Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO) and Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office (SLPPO).

“These damages caused by Typhoon Ambo will not impede our operations and prompt delivery of public service to the community especially that we are still facing this crisis brought by the CoViD-19 pandemic. We, in the Eastern Visayas Police Force hope for a faster release of funds for the immediate repair of the above-mentioned damages,” PBGEN BERNABE MENDOZA BALBA, Regional Director said.

No. 9175 (Chain Saw Act of 2002); R.A. No. 9442 (Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, and for Other Purposes); P.D. No. 449 and B.P. Blg. 6.

Personnel of Samar Police Provincial Office (SPPO) under the leadership of PCOL ANDRE P DIZON, Provincial Director nabbed 4 MWPs for the crimes of Attempted Murder; Frustrated Murder; Murder and R.A. No. 8353 (The Anti-Rape Law of 1997). SPPO also arrested 14 other wanted persons for the crimes of Frustrated Murder; Theft; Slander; Acts of Lasciviousness; Resistance and Disobedience to an Agent of a Person in Authority and Direct Assault upon an Agent of a Person in Authority; Violations of R.A No. 7610; R.A. No. 1619 (Penalizing the Use or Possession or the Unauthorized Sale to Minors of Volatile Substances for the Purpose of Inducing Intoxication or in Any Manner Changing, Distorting or Disturbing the Auditory, Visual or Mental Process) and B.P. Blg. 6.

Personnel of Ormoc City Police Office (OCPO) under the leadership of PCOL ARMEL S GONGONA, City Director nabbed 21 other wanted persons for the crime of Resistance and Disobedience to an Agent of Person in Authority; Violations of R.A. No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) and R.A. No. 11332.

Said operations resulted in the apprehension of 14 illegal drug personalities including 4 HVIs and the confiscation of 56 pcs heat-sealed plastic sachets suspected as shabu; 2 pcs heat-sealed plastic sachets suspected as marijuana; and Php 14,500.00 used as marked money. 157 illegal fishers were also arrested and confiscated from them were assorted fish and fishing paraphernalia worth Php 5,235,205. Also, 130 illegal gamblers with Php 85,755.00 worth of bet money and 21 illegal loggers with different dimensions of lumber worth Php 133,110.95 were arrested.

“As we face this unseen enemy, may we continue to be united and follow the mandate of the government to stay home. Stay home, save lives,” PBGEN Balba said.

Cops Nab Rape with Homicide Suspect in Less Than 24 Hours

Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Campetik, Palo, Leyte – Police Regional Office (PRO) 8 under the leadership of PBGEN BERNABE MENDOZA BALBA, Regional Director, nabbed CLINTON SANCHEZ VILLARIN, suspect for the death of a female victim in a hot pursuit operation led by Naval Municipal Police Station (MPS), together with Hon. Jonnel Quilaneta, Brgy. Chairman of Santissimo Rosario under the supervision of PMAJ ERIPRANDO CASTILA, Officer-in-Charge (OIC), Naval MPS at around 11:40 in the evening of May 27, 2020.

The said operation resulted in the arrest of Villarin at Brgy. Tamarindo, Almeria, Biliran. Villarin, 19 years old, single and a resident of the said place. Villarin was apprehended for the crimes of Rape with Homicide in a CCTV footage captured by the LBC camera around 1:43 AM of May 27, 2020 wherein it shows that Villarin brought the victim in front of the warehouse, and while in the middle of the door and the delivery truck of the said establishment, victim was sexually assaulted and raped, and eventually killed her by smashing her face several times on the floor. Probable cause of death is intracranial hemorrhage, multiple skull fracture and traumatic blunt head injury.

The heinous crime was discovered upon the report to Naval MPS of Romeo Bacunawa Barili, 37 years old, LBC delivery van driver and a resident of Brgy. Pinangomhan, Biliran, Biliran that a female dead body was found in front of the LBC warehouse. Personnel of Naval MPS proceeded to the area and found the dead victim, naked and bathed in her own blood.

Upon arrest, Villarin was brought to Naval MPS for proper disposition, documentation and filing of appropriate charges against the said suspect.

“I commend the personnel of Naval MPS for the speedy and successful apprehension of the suspect. Justice is served for the bereaved families of the victim,” says PBGEN BALBA.
