Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Campetic, Palo, Leyte – Police Regional Office 8 condemns in strongest terms the recent bombing incident in Davao City and extends its heartfelt sympathies to the families who have been killed during the incident, states PCSUPT ELMER C BELTEJAR, Acting Regional Director.
Early Saturday, September 3, President Rodrigo Duterte declared a “state of lawlessness” in the country which he said is not the same as Martial Law, but only to ensure “coordinated efforts” between the police and the military in the government’s fight against terrorism and illegal drugs.
To prevent similar attacks, Region 8 is on full alert and PRO8 has coordinated with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law enforcement agencies to map out security measures in strategic areas in the region.
In view of this, PCSUPT BELTEJAR has ordered all Provincial Offices to set up checkpoints where deemed necessary and maximize security and presence in all vital installations, malls, churches, bus terminals and all places of convergence.
He also instructed all PDs and COPs to be vigilant, check and validate all activities in all units and double police visibilities in their areas.
Moreover, the public is assured that the PNP is on top of the situation and that the situation is being handled carefully. A thorough investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the explosion and checkpoint/chokepoints were already established at all exit points nationwide.
Furthermore, PRO8 asks the public not to speculate anything and do not create passing, misleading or unverified reports to avoid confusion and panic.
Likewise, the public is encouraged to be vigilant at all times and to report to the police any information and/or suspicious persons, activities and unusual occurrences in public such as boxes and bags left unattended, people checking areas or buildings, people trying to enter secure areas, or people at events wearing too much clothing, or any untoward incidents and crime situations through social media (Twitter – @Pro8Pcrd or Facebook page – Pulis ha Rehiyon Otso) or through the following: Dial 117 or text 2920; RTOC 09173114794 / 09478907155 and Isumbong Mo kay tsip 09178475757.
