Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Campetic, Palo, Leyte – An eleven (11) – day nautical highway expedition across the country is conducted by some members of the House of Representatives who are to arrive soon here in Tacloban City, announces PCSUPT ELMER C BELTEJAR, Regional Director, Police Regional Office 8.

The expedition started on March 17, 2017 until March 19, 2017 led by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez. With him were fifteen (15) congressmen to include the Chairmen of the Committees on Transportation and Appropriations together with the Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries of the Department of Transportation.

From the assembly area at the SLEX Petron, the team first arrived at the port of Caticlan, Iloilo down to the City of Davao to Samal Island and will arrive here in Tacloban City on March 25, 2017 (Saturday) at 9:30 in the evening from the port of Liloan, Southern Leyte. They will spend a night here in the city and will proceed with their land travel to Calbayog City, Samar. Afterwards, they will heed to San Isidro, Northern Samar to Matnog, to Legazpi and back to the assembly area at SLEX Petron.

According to PCSUPT BELTEJAR, the purpose of this expedition is to inspect the roll-on-roll-off nautical highways to see what projects the Congress need to fund. After the inspection, they will submit reports based on the local proposals for budget.

This is the first time that House members would travel around the country to inspect roads, ports and harbors, RoRo vessels and passenger seats for the safety of the travelling public especially that the Holy Week celebration will soon commence and influx of people are expected to rise on this season, adds BELTEJAR.

“We need to secure our nautical highways because this is our channel for connectivity. This will help boost our tourism, this will also lower the cost of transportation of agricultural products from the province, thus, will alleviate the economic condition of our country,” he said.
Furthermore, PRO8 has already coordinated with other concerned agencies for the security measures and safety coverage of the delegates/team and other participants of the expedition.
