Eastern Visayas Cops Sieze 30 Banned Weapons

         Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – A total of 30 weapons were confiscated which includes 9 bottles of explosive substance locally known as “Badil”, 8 bladed/pointed weapons, 6 ammunitions, 3 firearms including 1 homemade shotgun known as “Sumpak”; 1 homemade firearm locally known as “ de holen”; and 1 unit caliber 38 revolver, 2 metal improvised bullet and 1 fired cartridge and slingshot in a 6-day simultaneous operations of police authorities all over Eastern Visayas from March 6-10, 2019 under the supervision of Eastern Visayas Police Director, PCSUPT DIONARDO BERNARDO CARLOS.

         Leyte Police Provincial Office arrested 5 persons out of 5 operations while Samar Police Provincial Office arrested 3 persons out of 3 operations. Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office arrested 2 persons out of 2 operations while Biliran Police Provincial Office arrested 1 person out of a single operation. These arrested persons (all civilians) were brought to their respective areas of jurisdiction for proper documentation and disposition.

         The cases of the apprehended persons were: 6 counts for Violation of BP Blg. 6 (An Act Reducing the Penalty for Illegal Possession of Bladed, Pointed or Blunt Weapons, and for other purposes), 3 counts each for Murder (Stabbing and Shooting incident) and Violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), 1 count for Alarm and Scandal, Violation of Sec 261 of the Omnibus Election Code, Violation of RA 9516 (An Act Further Amending the Provisions of PD No. 1866) and Violation of Sec 32 of RA 7166  (An Act Providing for Synchronized National and Local Elections and for Electoral Reforms, Authorizing appropriations therefor, and for other purposes).

         A total of 9,016 PNP personnel were deployed during the 5-day regular conduct of joint PNP/AFP checkpoints for the entire region.

         “I am truly grateful of the decreasing number of seized weapons in EV during checkpoints. It truly shows that the community is cooperating in our campaign for a safe election,” RD Carlos said.
