PRO8 Steps Up Support to DOH8 for the COVID-19


Camp Ruperto K Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – The Police Regional Office 8 through the leadership of PBGEN FERDINAND O DIVINA, Regional Director, steps up its support to the Department of Health Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-EV CHD) on the Corona Virus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) Outbreak relative to the Operational Guidelines set forth by the National Headquarters of the Philippine National Police.

As of 12NN of February 14, 2020, the DOH-EV CHD recorded a total of 16 Patients Under Investigation (PUI) in Eastern Visayas, of whom all of them were already cleared and discharged in good condition. Out of 16 PUIs, 14 PUIs were tested negative of the COVID-19 while the 2 PUIs were cleared due to 14 days beyond observation. The 16th PUI in the region who was admitted last February 11, 2020 is now discharged after the test result from RITM turned negative from the COVID-19. Likewise, the two (2) persons under monitoring (PUM), both from Leyte are also cleared from the virus after being asymptomatic for 14 days after exposure.

With this development, RD Divina directed EV Cops to assist DOH8 in the conduct of contact tracing and to secure the transfer of patients to appropriate health facilities, as well as the provision of other public safety services, if situation dictates.

PRO has likewise created a Critical Incident Management Task Group (CITMG) headed by PBGEN DIVINA, Regional Director, and 12 key Officers to address the critical and crisis incident in response to the Coronavirus Outbreak.

In addition, the Regional Reactionary Standby Support Force (RRSSF) composed of 32 personnel, 4 Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams, 2 Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) were activated and ready for deployment to support security and response operations as the need arises.

Police Assistance Desks (PADs) were likewise established in airports, seaports and areas of convergence to ably assist the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) of the DOH8 with regard to the security, isolation and control of quarantine areas.

“As of February 14, 2020, there is no confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Region. Let us hope and pray that this crisis will be over soon, and rest assured of PRO8’s full support in battling and withstanding the COVID-19 outbreak,” PBGEN Divina said.

Likewise, RD Divina reminded the public of their responsibility to present themselves to the nearest health facility if they experience any symptoms associated with the virus.
