PRO8 Records 24.16 % Drop in Crime Volume


Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) under the leadership of PBGEN BERNABE MENDOZA BALBA, Regional Director records a significant drop of 24.16 % in crime volume, 10 days after the implementation of community quarantine in Eastern Visayas.

As of March 15-24, 2020, this PRO recorded 204 incidents as compared to 269 incidents from March 5-14, 2020.  This displays a significant decline of 65 incidents in a ten (10) day-period police operations after the implementation of community quarantine throughout the region.

Provinces of Southern Leyte, Biliran, Samar, Eastern Samar and Leyte are under general community quarantine and further enhancing the implementation of mandatory precautionary measures against COVID-19 while Ormoc and Tacloban City are under Restrictive Community Quarantine. Accordingly, Police Force in Eastern Visayas together with other force multipliers work hand in hand so as to assure the access of basic necessities, provision for food and essential health services and heightened presence to enforce quarantine procedures. Among the force multipliers are the members of the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP), Philippine Navy (PN), Coast Guard, Land and Transportation Office (LTO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), Tacloban City Joint Task Group C19 Shield, Medical Practitioners, Barangay Emergency Health Response Teams (BEHRTS), Barangay Police (Tanod) and Youth Sectors who are taking charge in the checking of temperature by using thermal scanner as well as to verify the Identification and Quarantine Pass of passersby upon entry and exit within Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Special Lane is being provided for cargo vehicles bearing basic necessities and prime commodities as they are allowed to enter but subject to disinfection for both driver and vehicles. Also, only those with Household Quarantine Pass are allowed in going out to buy basic needs.

Donations of food, sanitizers, improvised face mask and multivitamins are given to our tireless front liners from their respective Local Government Units (LGUs), the NAPOLCOM, private individuals, Philippine Contractors Association – Leyte Chapter, AFPSLAI, 7th Day Adventist, Star Apple Foundation and other Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) as well as business establishments such as Azotea, Goldilocks, Red Ribbon, Panny’s Bakeshop, Salt Citea, Jollibee, Mang Inasal, Chateau, Zenaidas, Greenwich, Ormoc Herbs, Tolak Angin Herbs, Orly’s Lechon Manok and Liempo and Dunkin Donuts. Observance of Liquor and Gambling Ban and Curfew Hours are also implemented in the region.
