NPA rebel in Leyte heeds PRO8’s call to surrender

Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – A former rebel of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Capoocan, Leyte was presented to the authorities of Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) earlier today, December 17, 2020 after he had heeded to the call to surrender and abandon the armed struggle against the government.
“Arman” yielded on December 10, 2020 before the joint operatives of Provincial Intelligence Unit, Leyte Police Provincial Office; 2nd Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) and the 121st Special Action Company, PNP SAF, in cooperation and coordination with 93rd Infantry Battalion and 802nd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army, after the continuous conduct of community engagement and information operation.
Subject was reportedly involved in several encounters with government troops in 2002; the killing of two (2) PNP personnel and three (3) employees of PNOC Power Plant in Brgy Milagro, Ormoc City; conduct of liquidation of PNP personnel of Villaba MPS resulting to the death of three (3) PNP personnel in separate occasions; and raid of AZNAR Ranch in Tabango, Leyte in 2004 which led to the seizure of firearms.
“Arman” confessed that he decided to surrender after learning that his comrades have already laid down their arms against the government and are living peacefully with their respective families.
The said subject left the mass movement in 2009 but before yielding to the authorities, he remains supportive to the rebel group by housing NPA members plying to Samar and arriving in Leyte area. Consequently, he turned in a Caliber .30 German Sniper Rifle.
PBGEN RONALDO F DE JESUS, Regional Director, PRO8, confirmed that the said surrender was facilitated by the implementation of Executive Order No. 70 through the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and in consonance to the program thrust of PGEN DEBOLD M SINAS, CPNP, to intensify security operations and community support program.
“Our sustained persuasion effort is now finally reaping positive results. I have high hopes that more stories of rebels leaving nonsensical fight and choosing a peaceful life will soon surface,” says RD DE JESUS.
Authorities are now processing the application of the former rebel so he can avail of the benefits of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).
