5 NPAs yield in Tacloban, PRO8 reports

 

Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) recorded another surrender of five (5) rebel members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Tacloban, City, October 16, 2020.

“Rob”, 45 years old, single; “Opaw”, 45 years old, married; “Prime”, 40 years old; “Marcus”, of legal age, single; and “Binoy”, 60 years old, married, all from the province of Samar, voluntarily surrendered to authorities.

The said yielding of the former rebels was facilitated by Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO); City Intelligence Unit 8; Samar Regional Intelligence Unit; Tacloban City Mobile Force Company; and Military Intelligence Company 8 Mechanized Infantry Battalion (MICO8 MIB), 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army (8ID, PA).

PBGEN RONALDO F DE JESUS, Regional Director, PRO8, lauded the concerted efforts of the operating units in its intensified campaign against the NPA. The ceaseless combat clearing operations and the implementation of the Retooled Community Support Program in some areas in Samar are influential for the realization of this latest surrender.

“This recent development will surely cause a setback to the communist group and is a representation of the heightened anti-insurgency campaign of the PNP. I will make sure that more rebels will soon abandon nonsensical armed struggle and return to the fold of the law”, says RD DE JESUS.

Accordingly, two (2) units of caliber .45 with SN 842961 and 193273, with two (2) magazines and fifteen (15) live ammunitions of calibre .45 and calibre .38 with defaced serial numbers, have been turned-over by the former rebels.

PRO8 is now facilitating the assistance to be given to the former rebels and their families as part of the government’s efforts to reintegrate and transition them in becoming productive members of the society.

PRO 8 Launches “Singko Kontra CoViD” Bayanihan Campaign

 

Camp Ruperto K Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – Police Regional Office (PRO) 8 under the stewardship of the Regional Director, PBGEN BERNABE MENDOZA BALBA adheres the directive from the Administrative Support for CoViD-19 Task Force (ASCOTF) to initiate a Bayanihan Campaign dubbed as “Singko Kontra CoViD” in all Police Regional Offices nationwide.

ASCOTF was created to focus on providing administrative support, faster logistics, response, and deployment of Police Officers who will serve as frontliners in several checkpoints and health facilities.

The “Singko Kontra CoViD” Campaign is purposely initiated to come up with a “seed money” to help address the challenges brought by this current health crisis. This campaign underscores the spirit of bayanihan among all PNP personnel to provide immediate financial support to all police officers afflicted by the corona virus disease

A monthly FIVE PESO voluntary donation will be collected from all PNP personnel both Uniformed and Non-uniformed regionwide that has started in August up  until December 2020. It is however encouraged that five peso or more be donated by each personnel.

“We are doing this voluntarily to help our comrades who are battling from this unseen enemy and through this collective efforts of the men and women of PRO8, we will be able to win this battle as one,” Director Balba said.

PRO 8 Holds Webinar for Drug Operatives

 

Camp Kangleon, Palo, Leyte- Police Regional Office (PRO) 8 under the flagship of the Regional Director, PBGEN BERNABE MENDOZA BALBA, holds Webinar on Anti-Illegal Drugs Operations, Investigation and Prosecution for Investigators and Drug Enforcement Unit Operatives via Zoom spearheaded by PLTCOL MARIO G ABRENZOSA, Chief, Regional Legal Service 8 (RLS 8).

The program dubbed as “Continuing Legal Education for Police Personnel’’ aims to ensure efficiency in law enforcement particularly in the implementation of the provisions of laws. It will be a 1-day webinar conducted to all Police Provincial Offices (PPOs), City Police Offices (CPOs) and Regional Drug Enforcement Unit 8 (RDEU 8) scheduled every Friday starting from August 28, 2020 and will end on October 9, 2020.

Further, it will keep them abreast and refreshed of relevant provisions of R.A. No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) as amended by R.A. No. 10640 which is the recent jurisprudence on drug cases, thereby equipping them with the recent rules, guidelines and procedures in the prosecution of drug cases and be able to effectively and competently enforce the law.

“This will provide legal knowledge to drug operatives and avoid lapses in the conduct of anti-illegal drug operation, thus securing conviction of drug-related violators,” PBGEN Balba said.
